weBoost install — Authorized Installer, AGC honesty

A cell booster does not create signal out of nothing — it amplifies whatever weak signal already reaches your roof antenna. Install it wrong and you can end up with worse performance than no booster at all. United Mobile RV is a weBoost Authorized Installer.

Field notes

We place donor and indoor antennas to reduce oscillation and let automatic gain control (AGC) do its job. We do not promise magic bars where outdoor RF is not there. Measure outside first — dead outdoor cell is a coverage problem, not a missing amp.

Three parts, one system

Donor (outdoor) antenna

Captures weak outdoor cell signal. Placement and aim matter more than amp model. Keep it clear of other roof RF when possible.

Amplifier

Boosts what the donor hears. Cable quality and ground-plane choices matter. weBoost uses AGC — we do not “tune gain” like a stereo.

Indoor antenna

Rebroadcasts inside the coach. Must be isolated from the donor. Too close and you get oscillation feedback.

Power

Fused DC into the coach electrical system. No dangling cigarette-lighter specials for a travel install.

AGC & oscillation

What AGC does

Automatic gain control reduces boost when the amp hears its own output or when outdoor signal is already strong. Separation and isolation keep AGC from slamming gain to the floor.

Oscillation feedback

If outdoor and indoor antennas are too close, the amplifier picks up its own output and re-amplifies it. The system detects that and cuts gain — performance collapses.

Authorized Installer honesty

Placement and signal optimization — not “guaranteed bars” in a dead canyon. Outdoor RF and clear sightlines still win.

With Starlink / Peplink

Roof real estate is finite. Separate weBoost donor antennas from Starlink and Peplink cellular antennas. Crowding one corner creates interference that looks like bad firmware.

Reasonable DIY

Kit unpack, app setup, temporary placement tests on a site with known weak signal — if you already have a fused power path and will not drill new penetrations.

Book us when

Permanent roof donor mount, sealed penetrations, clean coax routes, oscillation that will not clear, or you want the booster designed alongside Starlink/Peplink on the same roof.

Site survey in five minutes

Outside first

Stand outside the coach with the phone on the carrier you care about. If there is nothing usable outdoors, a booster will not invent it.

Inside vs outside delta

If outside is usable and inside is dead, the shell is shielding you — that is the booster use case. If outside is already dead, fix coverage path (different carrier, Starlink, or relocate) first.

Donor aim

Point toward the usable sector when the kit supports directional donors. Omnidirectional kits still need height and clear metal clutter.

After install test

Compare before/after speed and call quality at the same outdoor site. If performance got worse, assume oscillation or donor/indoor coupling until proven otherwise.

FAQ

Will weBoost work with no bars outside?

No. It amplifies existing outdoor signal. Dead outside stays dead.

Can you tune the gain?

weBoost uses AGC. We optimize placement and isolation so AGC does not throttle itself into the floor.

Does it replace Starlink?

No. Cell for low latency near towers; Starlink where towers disappear. Many travelers run both — Peplink coordinates them.

Why did bars get worse after install?

Classic oscillation or antennas too close. Separate donor and indoor, check coax damage, then retest. See the no-boost troubleshoot page.
